Conference Assistance

Ohio DECA Alumni, here is a great opportunity for you to get involved with Ohio DECA!!!!

If you have graduated from high school in 2008 or before, you are eligible to become an Ohio DECA judge!!! (You must be out of high school for four years to be eligible.)

The 68th Ohio DECA Career Development Conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency, 350 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio on Friday and Saturday, March 16 – 17, 2012. Over 1,800 students will be competing in over 50 events with the top qualifying winners in each event going to the International DECA Career Development Conference competition in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 28 – May 1, 2012.

Judging at the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference is a very rewarding experience and is not complicated. You will be evaluating the skills you use every day in your business or industry. You will be thoroughly briefed by the event coordinators running the event before you start and throughout the day. It is not necessary for you to do any advance work or preparation prior to judging. Specific industry related knowledge is evaluated in most events through a written exam. Judges interact with the students in interviews, role plays or case studies.

On Friday, March 16, from 7:30 a.m. until about 2:00 p.m. Friday judging consists of reading and evaluating written research projects. Judges will be determining the top ten entries that will return on Saturday morning for finalist interviews. Parking is provided at the Convention Center garage and Ohio DECA will pay for your parking.

On Saturday, March 17, over 250 judges are needed to evaluate students in various role play/case study/interview situations. Using a structured evaluation form, judges rate students on problem solving, management decision-making, leadership, sales and marketing knowledge and communication skills. The timeframe for Saturday judging is 7:30 a.m. until noon.

Also, on Saturday afternoon from about 12:30 – 3:00 pm, we have Team Decision Making Events, Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling, Professional Selling Event, Advertising Campaign, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan, Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan contest finals. If you are available to stay and judge finals for these contests, we would greatly appreciate it. Lunch will be provided for those judges that stay and judge finals.
