Salt Lake City, Utah(April 28 – May 1, 2012 )
During each school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s Competitive Events Program, where they vie with one another at local and state competitions. The contests include real-life business scenarios and project presentations that are designed to test students’ academic understanding and skills development, as well, as DECA’s overall program strength.
The DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) draws more than 15,000 DECA students, advisors, alumni and affiliated businesspeople from all 50 states and around the world. This conference gives students the opportunity to meet and compete with other DECA members from around the world who have shown to be the best at their district and state conferences, and now have earned the chance to compete at the highest level of DECA competition and encompasses career-focused competitions in finance, hospitality and tourism, marketing, management and entrepreneurship. There are also many scholarships which DECA members can compete for to help continue their educational pursuits after high school.
For those student DECA members who are not competing in a competitive event, there are opportunities for them to develop their occupational and leadership skills by attending one of the many leadership workshops from which to choose from that enhances and improves their leadership qualities to take back to their local chapters.
While attending the DECA ICDC, it is not all work and no play for conference attendees! After participating in competitive events or attending workshops during the day, students will have time to socialize with other members from around the world, meet and network with influential business leaders at their vendor booths, and explore Salt Lake City.
At the closing session of the conference, DECA members will have had the opportunity to compete and win hundreds of trophies and thousands of dollars in scholarships that will be presented to outstanding DECA members who competed at DECA’s highest level of competition! Not to mention all the opportunities and fun in meeting other DECA members from around the world and interacting with important business professionals.
